First, let me start off by saying I do believe that Oahu should accept that Honolulu can and should become a city. However, it should do so on its own terms that makes the most sense for Hawaii. In other words, in a fashion that recognizes and celebrates natural beauty as well as strives to preserve it through green technologies. I also see a need in attracting more people to live in the urban core in order to preserve the farmland and green spaces that make this one of the most wonderful places to live in the world.
Now, the question is, how do we develop the city in a way that preserves Hawaii's beauty and identity while avoiding so many of the problems that cities often attract?
Do we need a 650' tower to do it? Should there be a height limit and how do we know when we've reached it?
Here is an article from Civil Beat, which lays out some reasons against such tall towers. Please comment on your thoughts on infill development in Honolulu, particularly, Kaka'ako.
